Description
The Better Messages plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized access of restricted message content in all versions up to, and including, 3.1.4, due to missing 'Restrict Message Viewing' checks in the message and conversation search endpoints, the chat room websocket broadcast token, AI reply streaming, and the AI translation and voice transcription features. When the setting is configured, members of a restricted role only see a placeholder instead of message text, but the plugin still returned search matches against message text, gave them the token for live chat room broadcasts, streamed AI replies to them, and included translations and transcriptions in the message data. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher, whose role is restricted, to read the content of messages in their own conversations and chat rooms that the site owner chose to hide from them.
